Kaitey’s 2020 Reading List

My reading list is…quite long. Here is where I am starting. In no particular order or significance. When someone tells me I need to read a book, it get’s added to my list. I am also trying to make my way through Penguin Random House publisher’s list, Jane Mount’s incredible illustrated list, this list, THIS LIST, and this one too. Okay…so maybe it will take me a few years to get through this list, but WE. ARE. ON. A. JOURNEY! This takes time.

Below are books written by people of color, that I highly recommend you start with. They will make you laugh, cry, scream, shout, and hug your friends and loved ones. They will share stories of their youth, love, drama, fear, and life. They will prompt you for discussions you didn’t know you would ever have. Who knows..maybe we will start a book club?
**Remember, we are reading through these books not to argue the validity of someone’s experiences, but to learn, listen, and understand what someone else has gone through.**

Be The Bridge, Latisha Morrison

The Hate U Give

Becoming, Michelle Obama

The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness

I’m Still Here: Black Dignity in a World Made for Whiteness

**Also, remember to buy your book directly from their site, not a major re-sale site so that your money can directly support their families, their work, and continuing their pursuit of justice**
